Donald W. Aaronson completed Medical School at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1961. He completed an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago in 1962 and a Residency in Internal Medicine at Hines VA Hospital in 1965.. He completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology in 1966 at the Northwestern University College of Medicine in Chicago. Dr Aaronson is Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology. Dr Aaronson was then involved in the Practice of Allergy and Immunology from 1967 until 2002. Dr Aaronson received a JD from the DePaul University College of Law in 1977. He was subsequently admitted to the Illinois Bar. Dr Aaronson received an MPH from Harvard University (with a focus on Patient Safety) in 2003. Dr Aaronson has been involved as a practitioner of Patient Safety within the Advocate Health Care System from May 2004 until he retired from Advocate Healthcare on December 31, 2016.
Dr Aaronson was the first Medical Director for Patient Safety in the Advocate Health Care System and created Advocate’s first approach to Patient Safety. He was employed as the first Medical Director for Patient Safety at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital from 2011 through 2016 when he retired. Again, Dr Aaronson created the position of Medical Director for Patient Safety at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
